The article about synthetics:

And I can't find the one for the weights either, but basically, the FIRST number is the viscocity when cold (before you fire it up). Lower number means it will flow easier. This is important because it lets the oil flow to parts of the engine quicker to help reduce the amount of wear on start ups.
The SECOND number is the oil wall's resistance to breaking down. The HIGHER the number, the less likely it is for the film to break.
I personally use 5w30. I'll have to write up the possible side-effects of using an improper viscocity in these engines some time....it'll probably scare some of you.
I use ONLY Mobil 1 synthetic 5w30 in my engine. I've also got a fairly low-milage engine (86K miles) that's in great shape, so I don't worry about burning the expensive stuff. Besides. This is YOUR engine we're talking about....doesn't it make sense to cough up some dough for the good stuff every 3000 miles to keep all those fast moving, very hot peices of aluminum and steel from rubbing together and give it that vital mirical known as good oil?
