Default SC2 owner wants to trade for an SC1???

No the topic is not a typo, the main reason for this thread is that I am asking in your opinions please. I came across an interesting deal anyway.

I will try to make this short, and get to the point...

I recently talked to a guy who has a '95 SC2 with power windows/locks/sunroof/ect. Who doesn't care about modding cars, he just wants something to cruise in. He let me drive his Saturn, and I let him test drive my car as well. And he offered to trade me his SC2 for my SC1, with $700 dollars thrown in as well. The $700 is to pay off money he owes on the car to a relative.

Here is the breakdown...

My SC1: '96 white, 167,000 miles, 5 speed, no sunroof/manual windows, door locks, No body damage, new tires, clean black interior, black spray painted "ghetto rims" "extras" air intake, tinted windows, one of those really annoying "coffee can" mufflers (don't kill me it was free!).

His SC2: '95 Dark Red, 174,000 Miles, 5 speed, sunroof, power windows, power locks, no body damage, good tires, Trashed interior(nothing a good detail job couldn't fix), The car needs alot of little things(tail light bulbs, power sunroof motor, ect, but is in good running condition). "Extras" None, even his air box is stock.

Anyway, my question is, should I do it? I love my car to death. But I have been wanting an SC2 forever, so I am undecided. P.S. I'm sorry for the long winded post, and thank you in advance for any advice that can be shared!

That is where the catch lies, the guy is solid on the $700 because he owes it in debt toward the car. The reason I am still kind of stuck on this situation is because...

On one hand I've got a nice shot at finally getting a clean SC2 and slowly fixing it up. But at the same time I am thinking of just doing an engine swap on my SC1.

You couldn't swap to a dohc/5speed for less than $700 unless you bought a wrecked sx2 for cheap. Depending on what my goals are, if it was speed, definitly. If it was show, keep the 96'.

he already has the 5 speed. If he can find a good motor for cheap (which is doable with patience) and can do the work himself, he can do the swap for less than $700.

the other thing to keep in mind, though, is that the DOHC is not hte only difference between the SC1 & SC2. There's also the rear swaybar, upgraded seating & fabrics, beefier front swaybar, more aggressively geared 5 speed...

Personally, I'd go for it if I felt I could trust the guy.

good point p-dude...

but the thing is the guy is getting a NEWER and CLEANER car with LOWER millage and a BETTER engine for what he wants.... why would you have to pay him? if anything HE should have to pay you...

did he ask you about tradding, or did you ask him about this little deal?

Aren't the gear ratios different between the sx1 and sx2?

Yes, the ratio's are different, but the transmissions are interchangeable. However, MP2 transmissions (Sx1) combined with a naturally aspirated DOHC engine are sort of a love it or hate it thing. I personally like running the lower RPM's, even if I have to downshift when going up a hill.

Alright you seem excited about trading but it seems to be a Rip. heres my theory please correct me if im wrong.
Starting with the good on yours
1. new tires
2.clean black interior
3. No body damage
4.lower miles
5. the Extra's you have listed

The bad with his car.
1. Trashed interior
2. few blown bulbs
3.sunroof don't work
4.walking away with a cleaner car
5.don't know how badly its been beatin

You can make your sc1 into a sc2 just with a motor swap and using your tranny 400$ tops unless u do the front end swap and dohc tranny swap

there would be no way in hell i would trade cars on top of money with crapped out interior and sunroof don't work. buts up to you
