should the purple wire on the starter have 12 volts when the key is turned.

It should have 12 V (battery voltage) when the key is turned to start.

Question Thanks Ssicarman

Maybee you would also know that when replacing the saturn starter on U-Tube and other places, it is disscribed as to remove the negitive wire to the starter.??? I dont get it , it is a red wire and goes to the Pos. on the battery. What am I not understanding ?

Negative cable from the battery.
Stops the spark show that you would get when/if you ground a positive wire.
Basicly disconnect the battery. You could remove the positive cable but there again you risk the spark show if you ground out the positive when removing.
