Just follow the basic directions on the bottle. When I do mine, I usually park it in the garage to keep it safe from sunlight, which isnt good while you're waxing. So you could do it mid-day in the garage with the light on, and then wax it. I used simple wax though, the pour on, rub off kind. No buffing or anything. It was easy. And looked sharp. Little word of advice though: don't wax the windshield or windows, or plastic parts on your car that have like, a texture other than perfectly smooth. In other words, wax the metal parts, nothing else. I made the mistake of waxing side mirrors (not the glass, but the black housing), and the wax got into the little grooves (its not smooth, its a bumpy texture, like the customizable exterior panels on the ions), and it dried up and turned white, so now my door handles, customizable panels and side mirrors have white crap in them. So, yeah. Good luck, it'll look pretty neat.[/i]

use meguires NXT wax its great and is forgiving in the sunlight.
to get the wax out of your textured plastic use peanut butter and a old toothbrush. I have worked as a detailer of and on for 15 years

General rule of thumb, the car should be cool to the touch before waxing, and not done in direct sun light.

true the car SHOULD be cool to the touch however, lighter colored cars aren't as much of a problem as darker colors. The car should be cool if you just washed it so as long as you don't let the wax set up to long you should be fine. I have to do this at work all the time becuse we have limited space in the detail shop. I have never had a problem with meguiers liquid waxes staining or not wanting to come off due to sunlight/ heat. You just have to do the car in sections half the hood at a time one pannel on the side at a time.
shimi I bet you thought I was crazy when I told you the peanut butter trick huh? the oils in the peanut butter cause the waxes to breakdown and allow you to lift it off with the tooth brush. it will sometimes bring faded plastic on the bumpers back close to thier original color but not always

Haha, I was thinking the same thing! I assume you just wash the peanut butter off in your normal car washing manner after that?

i use eagle one wet wax in a red bottle. after you wash the car you spray on the wax and wipe it off. its great for SL1s wit the grey bumpers as they dont take well to regular waxes, but the wipe and wax makes it nice and shiny.
