My 03 saturn ion

Ok my car wont start when it gets cold. well when i first try to start is makes no sound and doesnt even turn over. then i go back out about 7min later and it almosts starts and then 7 min later i try and it finally starts. does anyone else have this problem. or does anyone have a solution

It is most likely the ignition switch. Fairly easy DIY but a passlock relearn proceedure (30 minute one) would need to be done after replacing the switch.

same thing happens to mine....every morning i have to put a charger on it just to start it....during the summer its fine starts in the morning....but during the winter it back to the charger... i need help...

As always year, model and engine are nice to have.

If it is taking you about ten minute to get the charger and hook it up to the car and then try to start it then your problem is likely the same as the first poster. The ignition switch.

If you fix the ignition switch it should work as stated above. How long have you had the car and how cold are you talking here?

my bad 2003 ion seadan....i live in cali. so it dosent get that cold... i guess like 60 degrees or some thing like that...but it wont start until i put the charger on it....

Get the BCM codes read. If there is a B2960 and or a B3033 then it is the ignition switch.

My wifes 03 Ion 3 was doing that on the cold mornings! We took it to satrun, out of warranty, and they still fixed it for us. They said it was the grease freezing in the switch!!! idunno, but it hasnt been a problem since!!

Mine did that 2 yrs ago (03 Ion QC3). Thier is a bulletien out for something (don't remember exact part name) in the ignition cause the pass lock theft to not release the cylinder to start the car in cold weather (saturn was aware of but no recall had been issued, boy was i pissed). I took it to Saturn (of course my warranty was up), and they paid for the new part, I paid for the labor ($75). My ignition got so bad eventually it had to be towed to Saturn to be fixed from a parking lot, because it decided it wouldn't start at all, after it just started right up 3 blocks from my house. Get it fixed or you will be stranded eventually.

I must be extremely lucky, because I have a 2003, and there was not a single time where my ignition switch let me down. That in mind, the lowest temperature where is live is about 35F.

A few months ago, the engine only cranked slowly, so I hooked it up to a battery load tester, and it said that I had 340 CCA out of 600 CCA, and it was time to replace that battery. I bought a Carquest/Deka battery that matched the ION gas vents, and it solved that problem. I'm not complaining, getting more than 4 years out of a battery in Florida is rare, that's probably because few cars have the batt in the trunk.
