Default Saturn Vue Fog Lights

Here is a new twist on wiring fog lights. If you want your fog lights to operate from your signal light stalk, this is what I did. My Vue did not come with the driving lights it had the sport package so I had the traction control button where the fog light button should be. I installed the lights by removing the black plastic inserts, they popped out. The lights did not come with the connectors for the 880 bulb so I went to our local Pick your Part and found two from a mid 90's Pontiac with driving lights.
Operation: Went to Radio Shack and bought a 12V 2-pole relay (coil current 60 ma). From the left front park light I soldered a #18 gauge to the brown wire of the park light and connected this wire to the coil of the relay. Grounded the other side of the 2-pole relay coil. This was done because the Vue has automatic headlights; they come on at dusk. The relay was added to control the lights from the signal light stalk.
Next I removed the top of the plastic housing of the steering column, it pops off. I found the two switch legs that control the high and low beams, the pink and blue wire that are connected to the signal light stalk. I soldered a wire to each and took them to the common points of the 2 pole relay contacts. From the normally open contact points of the two pole relay I soldered on wires and soldered them to a 3 position toggle switch (On Off On) with each one to the two wires going to the on positions of the toggle switch (top and bottom). From the center point of the toggle switch I soldered on a wire and connected to a relay mounted under the hood (relay used to control the fog lights). The other side of the relay coil was grounded. The relay to control the fog lights has a 30-amp contact. On the Vue there is a +12 V post right behind the battery so I added a wire to this post and with an inline fuse and took that wire to the common point of the relay contact. The fog light connectors I picked up at the local auto wreckers I connected one of the wires to the other side of the relay contact. The other wire from the fog lights I grounded.
For the toggle switch I drilled a hole in the plastic housing below the signal light stalk. Since the top of the steering column is off it is easy to install the switch. Reinstalled the top plastic piece, it clips back on. The toggle switch was a Bussman and black in color so you do not even notice the toggle switch.
With my Vue the fog lights now work like this, middle of toggle switch is off and the fog lights will not operate. At dusk when the headlights come on the two pole relay now energizes. Now there is power to the 3-position toggle switch to the top and bottom on positions of the toggle. If I flip the toggle up I now have power to the fog light relay if my high beams are on and then the fog lights turn on. If I click the signal light stalk to change to low beams the fog lights now turn off. When I position the toggle switch to the down position the fog lights will be on with the low beams if I have them selected from the signal light stalk. When I change to high beams the fog lights will now turn off (this is the legal way). If you do not abuse the way these are wired you will not get hassled by the authorities. Been doing this for years on other vehicles I have owned.
