| July 4th fun! Airplane Flyovers, Fireworks, Music and Food! This friday some of us are meeting at my place to car-pool to the July 4th celebration (Tattoo) at wright patterson AFB.
The plan is to meet at my house between 5:30 and 6 PM then carpool over. The event is open to the public (no cost), however those with base access can go in the 675/Colonel Glenn gate to avoid the public traffic.
here is the press release
AFMC AIR TATTOO, "FREEDOM'S CALL"
Friday, 1 July
Raindate: Saturday, 2 July
Gates open at 5:30 p.m.
-Gate 22B is for base personnel, vehicle decal will be required. If you can get in this way, it's probably the best way with the closest parking available. Please note that when exiting this gate, you will be directed to 675 (north or south). The Col Glenn exit will be closed.
-Gate located at Airway Rd at Spinning Rd.
-Museum gate (28B).
Pre-show activities begin at 5:30 p.m., with food, beverages (beer tents, too), inflatables for the kids, and a band, "Cracker Shawn and the Crusty Buzzards."
No seating will be available -- bring your own lawn chairs or blankets.
Prohibited items: weapons, personal fireworks, coolers, backpacks and large bags.
**Note: In the briefing, I forgot to mention that from public parking, everyone will be required to walk through magnetometers to scan for medal objects.**
Parking in front of, and around, the Museum will be suitable for viewing fireworks and aircraft flyovers, but you will not be able to see or hear the program. It's best to park and come into the pedestrian area, where there's plenty of room to watch the show. There will also be two large jumbotrons that will display the show (live feed).
The Tattoo begins at 8 p.m. and features: The USAF Band of Flight, the USAF Sabre Drill Team, Parajumpers from the 123rd Special Tactics Squadron Kentucky Air National Guard, OIF (Operation Iraqi Freedom) medal presentations, WWII medal presentations, Katharine Wright portrayal, an Enlistment Ceremony, the history of AFMC, and, of course the aircraft flyovers. Immediately following, the fireworks display begins at approximately 10 p.m.
The planned/scheduled aircraft flyovers include: Wright B Flyer, Curtiss Jenny, Nieuport 23, P-51, B-25, F/A 22, F-117, C-141, F-16, B-52, C-17, and B-1. I was in a meeting this afternoon that announced cancellation of the Fokker Triplane, and added the KC-135. This schedule of aircraft will be subject to change between now and next week!
