Default About a new clutch...

My major fear in racing my car is that I'm going to blow the clutch out. It slips sometimes and I worry about it just dying on me one day and leaving me without a car...ugh. Does anyone here know how hard it is to install a clutch by one's self, or has anyone done it? I'm thinking about buying an extra clutch off Ebay just to keep for when this one dies out. The problem, then would be paying someone a LOT of money to install it, which isn't really an option. So basically, I'm wondering if having an extra clutch around is even worth it if I wouldn't be able to install it readily.

Thanks,
-Rob

I think that the only way to replace the clutch is to remove the engine. At least thats the only way that I know how. You are probably looking at an entire weekend to do it by yourself, but with some help it could be done in a day.

Well ****...that doesn't ease my mind any...:>) The only thing I have to get the engine out of my car is a strong back and two hands...I dunno if that would cut it! Thanks for the info.

PM me and we will see what we can do. A friend of mine here owns a shop, I am sure he will let me use it. In fact, he is actually my Captain's father.

Default Wow...

That'd be awesome. Do actually you know how to change a clutch? I hear it's quite a process! I don't need to change the clutch now, it's just a serious point of worry for me. Thanks a lot for the reply, though. Definitely eases the mind a bit. Here's a sort of related question for you. I have a header I need to install, but I'm worried about doing it here for a couple reasons: first, I'd have to cut off part of my stock 98 downpipe to fit the header on to drive to a shop to get it welded in. Also, I need to move (cut and then weld) the flex pipe from my stock downpipe onto the header downpipe (because the one on the header's downpipe is completely ****ed) and then weld all that together. Finally, I dunno about driving around here too much with an open header. Sounds like a recipe for coppers! So here's the question...considering the work I have to do to get this thing into the car, would you possibly be willing to help me out if we could use the shop? I'm sure it would make the process a lot smoother! I definitely understand if that's not cool, though. I don't want to put anyone out.

Thanks,
-Rob

P.S. I'm very probably gonna be installing a Phantom Grip in the car soon. Any idea of any shop in the Gainesville/Ocala area that would be competent enough to put it in for me for a reasonable price?

I will see what I can do about getting the shop for a weekend. I got tools, and I can use their tools too. They got everything you can think of to work on a car.
