I just spent an hour playing with the "build it" options at Saturn.com just to see what I could come up with. For those who don't know what that is, Saturn lets you specify various things about the car you want including trim, paint color, etc. It also shows you what the various options add on to the suggested retail price. Pretty cool way to see what features you can add or adjust while staying in a price range.

The build it feature is the best part of any car website. Especially if your dealership isn't very good about explaining things or only gets in one or two common model builds. I know the one near me always gets the low build and redline build but not always the middle unless they are trade ins. By playing with the build it feature we were able to determine that we wanted the model we were looking at but not the features normally offered at our dealership.

I wasn't aware of that. I'll have to pass that on to a couple of friends who are looking to buy other makes. I know one of them is very particular and never can seem to find exactly what they want at the lots.

You know what? I actually never messed around with this before, but i'm gonna have to head over to Saturn.com as soon as I sign off the forums, and see what I can find out there.
It almost reminds me of how many computer websites let you customize your computer on the fly, and see what the total comes to. Good stuff! |

I am a hopeless window shopper. I cannot afford another new motor right now but that doesn't stop me from regularly visiting the website and playing around with build it. I'm like a 5 year old with a toy with that, and I do the same on other sites too-how sad! I'll go through a site, fill my cart, and then have to empty it again or just shut it down...

I tried that build it thing out the other night finally, and I was very impressed with just how darn cool and customizable the whole thing was!
If you ask me, I think all car manufacturers should have something like that at their website. After all, most computer websites have had that feature for YEARS! Kudos Saturn! |

Honestly I think that most car manufacturers now do, don't they? I have seen a good number with them at least, and Seg have the same too. I would imagine that they are pretty standard things by now-competition wise they would have to be.
