Default '97 Engine Swap ?

I've got a '97 SL2 with what seems to me to be a serious egine problem. I'm no expert, but it sounds the rods are knocking which is something I dont want to mess with. If thats the case, I'm going to pull the motor and replace it with a "better" one. Any suggestions on more powerful motor?

What do you think?

Yeah, there really isn't a "better" one. I think there are certain years that are better than others, but if you mean put a honda or dogde motor in there, then no.

well that sucks to hear.

so has anyone tried or know anybody who has the monser block and patriot head from saturn motorsports? lil too pricey for me, but if i could get my hands on one or detailed pics, i could get one machined similar to it for much cheaper.

Thats stuff will do nothing for you without the proper stuff to go in. And I think they were aimed towards Forced induction. The stock block will handle any Na settup you can throw at it.

is the check engine light on? I would go find the newest engine you can find and hope it doesnt burn alot of oil. 99.5 and up you need the exhaust manifold to cat to bold up.
97 Im will bolt up.
