A car park incident that a very kind (not) person didn't leave a note about has left a nasty scratch on my black Vue. Do you think I would be able to get away with one of those touch up paint kits for now, or does this require a trip to the dealer? I really can't afford it.

I am not a perfectionist, but will ultimately want this fixed professionally as I like to sell my cars on as they start to age and upgrade. So would a fix it kit like this leave something that will be awfully hard to remove, to have a proper touch up done later? I know that ultimately I have to do something soon to stop the risk of rust.

I can't think of the brand name but years ago you'd see commercials for a product that you just rubbed in and buffed that would cover scratches without a lot of hassle? I can't for the life of me remember the brand but I know I've seen it near the car wash and wax products in Walmart.

Would that have covered well enough to prevent rusting? That is my main concern right now, I don't want to end up with more damage because of the inability to pay for repairs right now. I would rather go for a temporary solution now and have it done properly later, rather than have something that's going to be a huge pain to remove.

If I remember correctly, the product that I'm talking about does fill in the scratch so it should protect against rusting. Anything that coats the metal should offer rust protection as the metal wouldn't be exposed to the elements.

I know what you are talking about but I dont remember the name either. I do however have a friend that got into a similar issue and used it, it did cover all metal and about 6 months down the line the friend had it pro done and looks just like the day he got it.
