Default OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics

Exactly how accurate are the OnStar vehicle diagnostics? My Vue came with OnStar but I have never paid attention to the service because I don't trust it, and because I generally have my car in for service a little before it's due. There have never been any problems yet, so it seemed unneeded.

How useful is this service?

I'm not sure I'd trust it for everything, but there's nothing keeping them from being useful as a supplementary diagnostic along with common sense and regular maintenance. It makes sense to let a computer tell you about things you can't really see inside your car.

My fear is not them missing things that are starting to go wrong, but in them falsely showing problems that do not exist. It is that risk that I am most interested in, because I do not want to be taking my car in for service every few weeks, and running up unnecessary bills.

Default I've heard good things

A friend of mine has OnStar and she says it has saved her thousands of dollars as it alerts her before the problems get severe. So far, it has been accurate each time she has been alerted. Her mechanic told her that on two occasions the problems that only cost her a couple of hundred would have been over a thousand if she'd waited longer to have the car serviced and that most people don't catch it in time. She didn't get specific in the problems so I'm not sure what the issue was but she's very impressed with OnStar and said she'll never get another vehicle without it.

Well thank you, that is a good way to look at it. I guess that using it as a preventive measure really would save you a good amount of money ultimately, and so I need to adjust my penny pinching thinking! It might be time for me to subscribe.
