Default 98 Saturn SL2 1.9L DOHC T3/T4 Turbo Kit installation questions


Iam looking for a knowledgable resonse to multi questions if possible. 1st this kit for my 98 Saturnsl2 comes with 2 flexible oil lines. Do these merely replace the stock ones or do new holes have to be drilled into existing oil pan. 2nd this kit requires upgrade of fuel pump, injectors and Ecu if to be set above 8psi that it is sold with. Does anyone know the most compatable of these parts, and where they can be purchased. 3rd once all is installed does the ECU have to be programmed and will it effect any other stock electronical components than what is needed. In other words , I'm looking for the most compatible setup with least complications. I know it's a lot to ask for but if someone has the knowledge and is willing to share it would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Don't know what kind of kit you have but there is no plug and play kind of turbo kit for Saturn S-series. If the kit does not come with instructions you are going to have to do a lot of research to find out how to install it.

The S-series engines have no external oil lines.
The stock fuel pressure is 40-55 PSI so....
There is no ECU programming upgrade that I know of to deal with a turbo charger. Certainly not from Saturn and there was never enough aftermarket interest to come up with anything for stock ECU reprogramming.

Snds like a bummer, glad i didn't purchase the kit yet. Of course the advertisement claims a lot simpler bolt on aplication for certain elemants. Fastway racer.com claims alot . I know this is probably TMIF but this is it.
TURBO CHARGER:
Brand new T3 V-Band internal wastegate .63AR turbo charger. Set at 8PSI. Max up to 350HP.
Inlet: 3.0 Inch.
Outlet: 2.0 Inch.
Turbine Flange: T3 Flange.
Downpipe Flange: 2.5'' V-Band Flange.
Type of Bearing: Journal Bearings.
Cooling Type: Oil Cooled Only.
Oil Inlet: 1/8 NPT.
Exhaust Trim: .63AR.
Turbine Wheel Diameter: 55.79MM/63.36MM.
Compressor Trim: .60AR.
Compressor Wheel Diameter: 54.28MM/71.32MM.

OBX 91-98 SATURN DOHC STAINLESS STEEL TURBO MANIFOLD:
Brand new OBX 91-98 Saturn DOHC turbo manifold & downpipe. It is made of high quality SUS-321 stainless steel mandrel bent for ultra fast flow, CNC machine flange with TIG welded construction. It has been Dyno tested and proven. It is direct bolt on without modification, utilizes factory O2 sensor position. It includes bolts and gaskets, allows power steering and air condition. It fits with T3 flange turbo charger. This turbo manifold is bolt on this turbo charger without any modification.

2.5'' V-BAND CLAMP:
Brand new 2.5'' v-band clamp. It is made of high quality stainless steel.
Package includes: one clamp, two flanges.
For two v-band flangee connect without welding or bolts, locking nut will prevent back out. Customer can use this v-band clamp to custom make the downpipe for this turbo kit.

UNIVERSAL 2.5'' PIPING KIT:
Brand new universal 2.5'' polished aluminum piping kit. It is made of high quality T6061 aluminum. This piping kit is universal, it is not bolt on type. Customers need to cut and bent the intercooler pipe to fit your car. 2.5'' inlet diameter, increase more airflow. It comes with high quality 4PLY silicone couplers and strong and tighter t-bolt clamp. It can support up to 400HP.

27''X7''X2.5'' FRONT MOUNT INTERCOOLER:
Brand new universal 27''x7''x2.5'' front mount intercooler. The intercooler is made of high quality T6061 aluminum. It is tube and fin design, high flow and light weight. It can support up to 400HP and 35PSI.
Compress air flow rate: 700cubic feet/min.
Pressure drop: 0.2-0.5 at 15PSI, 2-5 at 35PSI.

SSQV TURBO BLOW OFF VALVE BOV:
Brand new SQV turbo blow off valve bov. The blow off valve bov is made of high quality CNC billet aluminum and anodized finished. It includes O-ring, hardware and flange. Our blow off valves is a dual stage pull-type relief valve. Unlike typical push type blow-off valves, it will not leak under any level of boost. It is for maximum performance, incorporates both a small primary valve for ultra quick activation, and a larger secondary valve for additional discharge capacity. It is constructed of billet aluminum, which ensures long-term durability and a high luster look.

OIL RETURN LINE:
Brand new 10AN oil drain/return line kit. The oil return line is made of high quality stainless steel braided line and T6061 aluminum fitting.

It helps circulate oil from the turbo to the oil pan.

OIL FEED LINE:
Brand new oil feed line. The oil feed line is made of high quality stainless steel braided line. Special designed inlet adapter limits oil flow, and effectively prevents blown oil seal caused by excessive oil pressure.

ID: 3/8''.
It comes with one 1/8 NPT male fitting and one 4AN male fitting. It has restriction build in, and offers proper oil feeding to the turbo charger.

FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR:
Brand new fuel pressure regulator. The fuel pressure regulator is made of high quality CNC machined aluminum. It includes hardwares and hoses for installing. It can manage your fuel system requirements, and increase fuel delivery by rasing pressure. It is adjustable 0-140 PSI(0-10kg/cm²) for maximum fuel pump capacity.

TURBO BOOST CONTROLLER:
Brand new turbo boost controller. The turbo boost controller is made of high quality CNC machined T6061 aluminum with anodized finish. It comes with hardwares for easy installing. It is light weight design and allows you to adjust PSI ratings(1-30PSI) without changing the wastegate springs as well as replacing the wastegate springs.

OIL CATCH TANK:
Brand new oil catch tank. The oil catch tank is made of high quality T6061 aluminum. It comes with aluminum bracket, hose and stainless steel clamp to mount your new reserve tanks. The oil catch tank collects the oil mist and condenses the fuel vapors while allowing cleaner gases to be passed back into the intake. It will ensure better performance and better mileage on your engine.

TURBO TIMER:
Brand new pen style turbo timer. It is made of high quality. A turbo timer is a device designed to keep an automotive engine running for a per-specified period of time in order to automatically execute the cool-down period required to prevent premature turbo wear and failure. A turbo timer can be programmed to leave the engine running for a per-specified period of time even after the driver has exited and locked the vehicle. After a period of driving when a turbocharger has been working hard, it is important to let the engine run at idle speed for a period of time, allowing the compressor assembly to cool from the lower gas temperatures in both the exhaust and intake tracts. At the same time the lubricating oil from the engine is able to circulate properly so the turbine won't burn the lubricating oil that would otherwise be trapped within the charger with the turbine rotating at high speed.

Never mind you only get 90 days of warranty IF a professional installs it.

It's much appreciated to listen to you say that because I was even thinking of a profetional installation, but as you said, with no instructions included it would almost definately be a futile efoort to find on. It's unfortunate, because I was looking forward to having it installed, but it's better to find out now with a running car and some saved money, then too late with a car that doesn't run and a lot of wasted money. Default Final Question on thread

How do you feel about these so called perfomance chips like Stage 3 Performance Chip OBDII Module from performance chip tuning that claim to overide the ECU during certain times of needed HP. Like This copy and paste that I know you said you don't like. Are they a farce in your opinion.

The main problem that you have is that you have a Saturn.
It was produced as an economy car with limited numbers and virtually no aftermarket performance product. In its prime in the 90's there was really nothing for these cars to provide a real world power gain. There was just never the paying market for it.

If what you are looking at costs 1-5-10-20 dollars and you are willing to take the risk of it not working then try it. If it costs an amount of money that you can not afford to loose if nothing happens then I would not do it.

If it is the same site that has the turbo kit I would be wary.

NO "chip" will add any performance to any SATURN. Hp does sell a TUNE for some SATURNS including the 2006-2007 ION with the 175hp 2.4L. S-Cars are great to lower, add a rear sway bar, bolt on a front and rear strut bar, get lopro tires. They handle outstanding, but real engine performance only comes from adding a bottle.

these ebay chips and thier claims are not worth the damage they can do. What most of these chips do is resist your map sensor signal voltage, making your system run dangerously lean. You will feel a small increase in power briefly until your starts detonating. Just personally wouldn't do it...

As far as your turbo venture, I wouldn't give up so easily.

For tuning you have a few options. 1 would be to get an SAFC (super airflow converter), this is a fairly cheap option that will give you a bare bones Essential tuning system. This system can be wired in to most any fuel injected vehicle. You will spend anywhere from $50 to $200 depending on the deal you find. Otherwise you can run a semi- stand alone system like Mega squirt. You can get this in a few different flavors but i suggest Mega squirt 2 or higher. Pricing starts around $300 but worth it for good accurate tuning solution that has a fuel set of modifiable fuel maps and timing, injector pulse...ect.

As far as the turbo, I would build the setup with a cheap .50 trim turbo from cx racing or godspeed usually around $200 to $300. For the manifold you really only have a couple of options. The OBX cast t3 manifold will work but once you get to a bigger turbo and more power you will want to have a custom one tig welded.

For your oil lines, get your feed from where the oil pressure sensor is and yes you will have to put a return in the oil pan.

There is more you will need but I hope this helps. I hate to see people give up on builds just because there is minimal support and negative opinions.
