Default 3rd Gen headlights to 2nd Gen

Quote=jegster: "Yes you will need the turn signal connectors from a 3rd gen along with the brackets. Here's the other thread."

Can't post link but it's dead. Is this mod detailed somewhere else? Thanks.

Good question. I am not sure. I didn't even know about this until you just revived this thread.
And stop by the New Member forum and introduce yourself please.

I recall seeing this upgrade posted somewhere (maybe not here) but could not find again. Anyways, I've just spent the bulk of a whole day trying to swap clear '02 headlights (NICE) into our '98 SW2 (yellowed). On quick glance it would appear to be a simple unbolt old & attach new. NAUGHT! Thought I had everything necessary (headlights, bulb sockets, mount brackets & hardware). Need more; a LOT MORE. Basic diff 'tween the 2 designs is '02 headlight measures longer & different shape. '02 position is slightly outboard compared to '98; necessitating wider centre grille section (part of bumper cover) & different fenders to allow outboard position. Also interference 'tween lower headlight & upper bumper. While the mount & headlight do bolt in, nothing around it fits w/o an inordinate investment of parts swapping time. Possibly differences go even further than my description; I gave up once the bumper/fender/grille issue became obvious & measurement showed no chance of swapping lens itself due to different shape. FYI, OldNuc @ SaturnFans agrees; can't be done. Just thought I would share to anyone else considering this. Or if someone has the solution please advise! Thanks.

Im not sure. I have post GM saturns. Eventually when im a bit more financially stable I will work on getting a pre GM satty. I love those older ones.
But if you find out about this, definitely post it and I will sticky it for future reference.

GM orphaned Saturn immediately after gutting Oldsmobile; then instantly focused it's evil eye on Pontiac. Sabotaging their best work while remaining in business is something GM does VERY well. GM still builds & sells almost as many vehicles as they recall; not sure what you mean by "post GM". Pre/Post taxpayer bailout might be the accurate terminology. And yes, you will love an S series; we now have 2. I'll try to remember to update should I find how the headlight swap can be done w/ minimal parts & time. Thank you.

I think the term Pre/Post taxpayer bailout was more accurate.
I think I will too. As soon as my Redline gets built, that will be next on my list.
And definitely post it. Im curious.

The headlamps are not a straight swap over. To make things 100% everything must be swapped. That's been talked about for years on many Saturn forums and has always come out the same way. You may still be able to find replacement headlamps on ebay. As I remember they were around $55 bucks per side.

Go make a signature, add your first name, location, and car to it.
