Default ISS low circut input.

one day I started my car and I got a P0717 code for the low circuit input. Ive replaced the VSS, the clip that goes into it and the wiring from it to the PCM to no avail. Ive tested the wiring and I do NOT get a signal still from the low input wire. The only other thing I could think of is the PCM is bad. Speedo still works but the car occasionaly shifts hard and cant downshift properly, unless done manually with the auto shifter.

Car is an automatic, in case that wasn't obvious. 2001 SC2.

Am I correct in my thinking its a PCM problem?

P0717 is for the Input/Turbine Speed Sensor (ISS/TSS) Circuit No Signal, not the Vehicle Speed sensor (VSS).

Since you know where the VSS is located, you can find the ISS/TSS at approx the same location near the bell housing near the front of the vehicle.

Same troubleshooting steps apply.

PCM needs this info to be able to control the line pressure to ensure among other things, smooth shifts.

When the ISS/TSS signal goes to 0, the tranny is given full line pressure all the time, which is what's messing with the shifting.

OMG it shifts soooo SMOOOOTH! Thanks for all the help. turns out the wire to that sensor was cut deep inside the black protector wrap stuff. All better.

Glad you're ridin' smooth once again.

We aim to please!

(And if you WERE stupid, you'd be at AutoBlows shotgunning $200 worth of unrelated sensors as a guess instead of asking for some guidance. We get those all the time.....(sigh))
