Default Conversion ?

Hello and salutations, my first post here. I have been working on and owning the older saturns, i see so many nice saturn vues for sale at a low cost because of bad engine or trans. Has anyone completed a conversion to a different engines trans combo that is very dependable? Sad to see a nice body rot because of the power train problems. These are nice cars but not nice to sit around dead! Thanks ! Jtw retired usaf

First of all, thank you for your service to this country.

Many of the ones you see are likely 03 04 models that had the CVT transmission which fails at a rate of about 100%.

Your two options are to put another CVT in it which is flat out stupid if you could even find one that worked, or convert it to a manual, which has been done and documented all over the net in Saturn forums.

the ecotec engines were not too bad back then, but there is no bolt in swap other than the V6 Honda engine and the V6 non Honda. People seemed to have issues with those as well, though I don't remember the specifics.

Wow ! Awesome a quick reply!
Thanks for your thanks!
My son bought a sw300 with the v-6 that engine was shot because of the timing chain snapped and bent the valves. Fast v-6 but a nightmare to work on and known to be a tolerance engine. Out of timing, everything smacks ! Get another engine !
So i did not know the vue engines were, are honda engines. I had a 91 accord with 300k ! I saw a great youtube video on rebuilding the vtc trans. Guy said actually not that bad a trans but the parts are stupid priced or try to get used ones. So at 100k rebuild and go another 100k. If you are a mechanic, not so bad. But i drive a 91 silverado with 236k and just the overdrive clutch pack is slipping at lower rpm`s, front pump shot! I put a bottle of lucas but need about three to get it to limp a little farther. 200 bucks i get a used trans! We need a fabrication shop to put together a kit to install the 2.2 dohc engine and taat trans into these vues! I would buy one in a heartbeat!
Don`t let your meat loaf, don`t let your bag drag !!!!!

no question in there so nothing to reply to.
S, L, and Vue engines were all interference. So are many others. Not sure what your point is. Some of the later 1st gen Vues were offered w Honda V6s.

Let me know when your Ecotec + TAAT mobile is built so I can accurately log the # of DTCs.
I'm also interested to see if it develops "forward slam".

Pretty sure it's been done.

Also, please keep your dance in your own pants. No one here wants to read about it
