Wink 2000 LS1 Saturn

Hello. I am new, thank you for the opportunity...

I purchased the above mentioned car for my daughter and have been free of concerns, about this car, for about the last year.

The car has failed the safety inspection due to the 3rd brake light assembly not functioning. Please, can anyone tell me if there is an inherent problem with these units or mainteance process to adhere to? Also, if I need to replace, request that you advise the step by step procedure for proper removal and replacement of a salvage yard unit. Thank you. Paul (the unit is located on the ceiling, next to the rear window, under a removable plastic panel)

Welcome to the Board.

These lights were known for having bad bulbs repeatedly. I have seen them with all six bulbs bad at the same time. Chekc for power and ground at the connector. If ou have it then try replacing the bulbs.

Thank you for your input...

Do you have any details regarding the process of removal and replacement of this third brake light assy? The steps required to ... I will need to go to a salvage yard and successfully remove same and then reinstall in my car. Paul

(in case the repair process is not applicable)

It has been a few years since I have touched an L-series. From poor memory it is basicly remove the cover, should be held in place by a couple of clips. This will expose the back of the bulbs so that you can remove them to check them. From there you should be able to seen what is holding the bulb rack in place if you need to remove it.

Was there a recall or campaign L-Cars? Call the nearest dealer to you VIN in hand for information.

The early L-series had a recall for the left and right brake light sockets but nothing for the high mount.
