Seriously, I really don't care if they call it an S or an ION, but the whole concept of the ION that they are going to introduce is in my opinion a bad choice. It's not a very sporty looking car, and if that's what they're shooting for, they're way off target. I personally wouldn't buy the ION the way it sits right now. I'd have to say the only thing I like about it is the center mounted guages.

Face it, the current S platform is severely dated. I love the way my S handled, but it was really time to move on. You cant reskin the car forever. The concept of a new car - the ION - is a great idea I think. Fresh styling, new platform, updated interior, etc.

but................Saturn really botched it bad. Going with the Delta platfrom (twisted crap beam rear suspension and all the goodies that come with the Crapolier and Sunfart) was a very bad idea. Saturn cars always have handled like a dream, now i cant be so sure. Ive driven Nissan's "implementation" of this horrid cost cutting technology ... it just wasnt enjoyable for me.

Saturn also botched the Coupe styling. Instead of continuing the (short) legacy, we went to something as boring as the RSX or a dodge neon.

I do like the sedan styling, its one hell of an improvement over the existing SLs, but both the coupe and sedan really lack in the interior department.

Toyota and Saturn obtained some awful research (from god knows where) that showed how "youth" enjoy wacky interior contraptions like center mounted IPs, etc. This is why the echo has one .. and why the funky scion cars will too.

I dunno, I kinda like the center mounted guages, but I really don't like the styling of the car at all. I have no problem with a completely new design, I just think with the ION, they're going down the wrong path.

I agree with Cxtra make the 2.2L as an option in the S series.

The sedan does look pretty cool, and yeah,I have to admit now that the coupe is overly bland. It's not a perticularly bad stylin' job,but it just doesn't evoke any sense of power.Allthough after watching the video of it on Edmunds.com is looks much better while it's moving.Anyhow,my next car will either be a new '03 L or the all new Mazda 6.I need more room, and want more power either way. It's just too bad I can't slam that 2.2 in my sc2.If I had a few grand layin around we would ALL find out.
