New cars are nice. If they didn't depreciate everyone would buy them.
Depreciation is an expense I hate. It's twice as much with a new car. I can not stomach that. Literally. It would eat at my gut knowing all that money is just vanishing into thin air as I sleep or eat breakfast or watch TV or play with the kids or anything.

Yeah, that is really my only real beef with new vehicles, is the massive expense. I can deal with breaking them in and the tight maintinence schedule for the first few thousand miles, but just knowing that you lose half of it's worth as soon as you drive it off the lot, it's just sickening...

it happens. Right now the economy stinks and it is also hurting car values too. I look at it this way. I try to keep my cars at least 5 years if they are good to me. In that period of time if they have been affordable and not high maintenance, I have gotten my use out of the car.

I say buy what you want, don't worry about depreciation if you are going to keep the vehicle for 100K miles, at that point, who cares? Or - buy a used car that has already depreciated.
