Default Gettin' head

Oh come on, where's your dirty mind....

I have a friend that has a full DOHC head that he's offered for sale. So my question is if I do just a head conversion from my current SOHC to his DOHC head, will it work? Will I get the 124 HP output?

He has the head as well as exhaust manifold. Mind you I do have a hook up at a Saturn dealership so I'm not attempting to put it in myself.

Also, Joey, what's a reasonable price? It's used with like 60k miles on it. He was saying 4-500?

if yer planning on a head swap... you should try and use the same years when doing it... (based on what Fonzo told me)...

that price seems a bit high, especially when a new head from saturn will cost you $600... and you can get em off ebay for like $150

just my input... but who cares what I say... i'm an idiot

I have heard that putting the DOHC head on an SOHC block will cause the compression to be up around 10.5:1 which seems to cause problems with engine management.

This apparently has something to do with the pistons.

Please...if anyone can confirm this, I am sure that it would be greatly appreciated.

if he realizes that u can get a new one for that price, I'm sure he'll go down on you......(ok, so that didn't sound right, but it goes with the subject.....LOL)...anyway, yeah, you can do a head swap like that. Sticking with the same year is always a good idea, but not always necessary. As for the difference in HP.....that I don't know.

you're gonna need to get the timing chain and all that **** on the front of the engine too.

if he doesn't include it, you'll need an intake manifold. if you are '95+ you should (don't quote me) be able to use your T/B and intake pipeing.

I am 95+ (99), and it does include the timing chain as well.

if saturn wanted the twin cam cars to have single cam pistons they would have only made one piston from the factory, will it work? sure, you can bolt any old crap together and make it work, will it be as effective as a true twin cam engine? well you look at both piston designs and tell me.
will valves hit? whoever made that up obviously has no clue, the dished pistons allow FOR MORE clearance between valves and pistons.
theres absoltuley no reason you have to use same year set ups, false information.
anbd actually elmo, your stock single cam harness and pcm will run it absoltuley fine except fr the rev limiter (see tkt 003) we wound up adding a twin cam pcm later on but for testing purposes the single cam pcm ran that car for about 2 months with nary a problem.
