Default 2000 SL2 1.9 DOHC single piston needed

Anyone have spare motor parts laying around? I have a school employee's vehicle that one of my students broke a spark plug while swapping them out and part of the plug fell into the cylinder and beat up the piston to the point it cracked the top of the piston. The owner does not have a lot of money so I am trying to do this as cost effective as possible and already had gaskets on the way when I discovered this. Any help would be appreciated. i am in the central FL area.

Thanks - Dave

go to rockauto.com

Select Saturn>>2000>>SL Sedan>>1.9L L4 DOHC>>Engine>>Piston.

They are sold in 4 packs but at the prices shown, they're affordable.

Prob want some new rings too...

I appreciate the reply, but he does not have enough money for the set of four with the rings. If it were up to me we would have gotten the rebuild kit they have for $375. we had already spent $200 on the timing chain kit, water pump, and gaskets before we discovered the crack in the piston. That is why I was searching for just a single piston.

Ok, I get it.

I've posted an APB elsewhere and will let you know what comes back

Just so you know, per Rock Auto, compatible pistons are
1999-2002 DOHC
2000-2002 SOHC (yes they switched)

He has figured out a way to come up with a little more cash so he gave me the go ahead with the new set of four since we did not seem to have any luck finding a single one yet. Appreciate the effort.

NP

I was hoping for that as the ultimate outcome.....

I like to help people get what they need......I'll call off the hounds.

Please keep us updated on the vehicle status.

Out of curiosity, was the kid that damaged it trying to remove the rest of the spark plug in an improper manner? Should have made his parents pony up the cash for 1/4 of whatever you're buying if the kid was being a reckless clod not following directions. Then again, it's a CLASS where students are there to LEARN what TO do and what NOT TO do.....

If it was a school owned vehicle, that's one thing, but if a guy offers up his ride to let kids learn to change plugs and the privately owned vehicle gets damaged to the point that you have to pull the engine and open it up to fix it, plus seals, etc, then I think the kid or the school should chip in......
