Default Loud thumping noise when hitting curb

Hello for about the last month or so every time I hit a curb or a speed bump it sounds like something is loose inside my truck problem is I've taken everything out even the spare tire in the carpet and the noise is still there. It does sound like it's coming on the right side could it possibly be the muffler?

Thank you

I hope you don't plow curbs on a regular basis. I think you meant to describe it differently

As for going over speed bumps and getting noise on the right, particularly in the backish: the muffler is supported by a strap that mounts to a hanger. When the strap rusts through, it's usually right where the two meet. There is still enough support from there and how the exhaust system is mounted to keep the muffler from dragging on the ground.

However, it WILL wave up and down somewhat freely right at the muffler.

To check this, either put on some gloves or a pair of shoes you don' t care about and grab the end of a COLD tailpipe and check for excessive play (there should be essentially none). If there is play, move it all the way up and see if you can reproduce the noise you hear by smacking it gently off the bottom of the car. Just don't break it off.

You may also hear a thunk right after you start the car -- that is usually the same cause.

Very common. Things rust. Things break. Fix things. Drive into the distance.

PS: Be very careful to buy the correct muffler strap to match both the model/year of the car AND the muffler you choose.

There may be a generic strap out there, but there are application notes in the parts listings that are VERY clear on which strap must be used with which muffler.

I really appreciate your help I will definitely be getting this checked into there is definitely play in the muffler and if I hit the muffler opening hard enough it makes a noise hitting the top of the car it is somewhat loose I would not consider it tight

Plowing curbs would cause a loose muffler.
Simple fix would be to stop hitting curbs.
Racecar fix would be remove the exhaust or go side pipes!

I'm just kidding
