Default Auto Tranny Performance Switch

There is a 2 position switch at the automatic transmission shifter, labeled Perform/Normal.
Can someone tell me what this is ?

In performance mode it will hold a gear until higher RPM, and shift more quickly, which should increase acceleration. Regular mode, of course, generally shifts earlier and more smoothly, and is more economical. Often if you floor it in regular mode, though, it will act like performance mode anyway.

Yea it can do that but it seems for me to shift better at high rpms in perf. mode like it should. How'd you make it to 7000 rpms when the redline is 6500. I can't make mine go over redline even if i try.

My '01 only goes up to around 6300 or so then shifts. I like how our Saturns let you go all the way to redline to shift, I've driven quite a few auto compacts that weren't so generous.

I've seen 7300RPM (in low 2) in my old 1996 SL-2 auto, and an indicated 123MPH (in Drive), can you say NO limiters with the auto?
My 2001 Manual steps out at 6750RPM, and around 110MPH...
