Buy the VHT Nightshade from SMS. I dunno about doing it though. Never been done. I'm still deciding on how to paint my tails red w/o screwing them up.

Whether you're painting them with red or black, preparation is the key!

Clean them, thouroughly. Wash 'em down with soap and water. Then, wipe them down gently with something like laquer thinner, to remove all the stuff that soap won't.

Give them a light sanding with 600-1200 grit wet/dry paper (wet) to break the glaze on the surface.

Mask off the areas you don't want to paint, and shoot a light coat. Give this coat a very light sanding, wash it down again, and shoot a second light coat.

Repeat these steps until you've got the colour you want. It would probably be a good idea to shoot a couple of light coats of gloss clearcoat on top of this, following the same steps used for the colour.

Just make sure you take your time. Let things dry properly between coats, be careful, and they'll look like they came out of the factory like that.

Like mine! (sure wish I had a pic to show you.)

Jim

If you don't tint it too much, yes.

what color is your ion?

If its bright blue like mine, tinting the tails would look like ass. photoshop it first.

Someone should write up some detailed instructions and send them to me at blueion2@hotmail.com so I can add it to the tech section. Pics would help, but not required.

btw, for those who don't know, saturnspot has a tech section. http://www.saturnspot.com/tech If you would like to add to it, drop me an email.

mine is the factory black atm but like 3 or 4 years from now once everything else is done (turbo/nos if i even do nos, kit and everything) I'm think about either doing like JET JET black or jet black to chamelion crimson red

but yeah right now it's black so I think it would look pretty decent except for the fact that the reverse lights are those 2 tiny circles in the the actually taillight so that might look wierd if i dont black those out too
